There’s no easy way to say this, so I’m just going to just say it…
At some point, your data is going to be in danger
Your pictures, emails and contacts on your phone could be gone as quickly as a thief nabbing it and bolting into a crowd. A virus could wipe your computer clean. A tornado the size of a small state could come and demolish a town. A kid could be playing with matches in the apartment next door and as a result, your beloved photos are destroyed by the fire. Your belongings could be reduced to trash within 10 seconds during an earthquake. The 1994 Northridge ‘quake comes to mind and I’ll just tell you, it really wasn’t fun.
You could lose all or some of your data
What should you do?
Simple. Set up a backup system for your computer, phone and website.
Do find the best method for backing up your computer and phone and do it! If you’re using WordPress site, you’ve got a bunch of options. So many, I haven’t the chance to research and try them all, but I’ll tell you what I’m doing now to protect my data.
In the past, I have manually backed up my site and saved all my pages, posts and images. While this method is reliable, it’s such a tedious process. Lately, I’ve been utilizing a plugin to do the dirty work for me. I’ve tried nearly a dozen and BackWPup plugin is the one I’ve chosen to use.
It’s easy to install. It gives me the options of WHAT I want saved and I can tell it WHERE I want my data to go (Amazon S3, via FTP, Google Storage, and more) and I loved the ability to email the file to myself and to save my data remotely on DropBox* appealed to me. So far in the last 3 months, it’s been quite reliable and efficient. It’s been great and I’m at ease knowing that I’m saving my goods.
How ’bout you? How’s your data?
If you’re running a WordPress site, I’ll install BackWPup for you and set it save your data either daily, weekly or monthly. That way, in the event of an unforeseen disaster, you can rest easy since you’ll have a backup of your site and know your data is safe!
Isn’t $99 worth it to save your goods?
