I’ve used WordPress for 5 years+ and witnessed the many changes and improvements over the years and I’m baffled as to how I missed the fullscreen effect, but I did!
Fullscreen = distraction free. It’s awesome.
And I just love the way the headers and buttons just fade away into the background, essentially leaving me with blankness, waiting to be filled with my thoughts articulated into written words. I extend my browser window as wide as my monitor so I can’t see other web pages stacked on top of each other, my email message alerts stay hidden, and Facebook and Twitter don’t beckon me to socialize.
It’s just me. The blank canvas. My thoughts. My words.
Do you want to embark on a distraction free writing excursion?
This all you need to do:
1- Log into your WordPress site.
2- Choose Posts or Pages and create a new one or select one to edit.
3- Select the fullscreen option
If you’re using the Visual Editor look for the square with arrows pointing to the corners:
If you are using the Text Editor choose “fullscreen” option:
In fullscreen mode you can do all the essentials:
- Write your posts and pages
- Switch between visual and text views
- Format your text
- Insert media
- Add links
- Save your work
Why I like it.
It really helps me focus on what I’m trying to say. The links on the top, left and right sides of the browser page distracts me. Unless I’m truly engrossed and in a zone of writing, one quick glance at anything besides the words I’ve typed even for a nanosecond, I’m diverted off task and off onto something else.
Bonus: At the bottom of the screen, it will tabulate your word count, a great feature for those who need to know just how many words they’ve written. My favorite is the little prompt, “Just write” is enough to remind me what I need to be doing!
Blocking out the audio distractions
Recently, I discovered a YouTube video of nothing but 12 hours of white noise. Being deaf, I don’t need to use this. Being somewhat bionic, all I need to do is to “unplug” and delve into a world of silence. I’ll be honest, it’s awesome, blissful and very quiet!
What do you do to eliminate distractions so you can do your work/write/focus?
I’d love to know. Seriously.
